About

South Australian Big Years have been occurring more and more frequently since the COVID pandemic. While a few records were set by long-term, seasoned birders in the past, many birders newer to this most wonderful passion have launched their own Big Years, often inspired by those who have gone before.  For the sake of consistency, recent Big Years have been based on a number of agreed to guidelines (see Big Year Guidelines Page), and these have been used to ascertain the current records (see Big Year Records Page). A 300+ Club has also been formed. 300 species seen in a calendar year in South Australia is a fantastic achievement!

Please feel free to comment on the Page or advise us if you, or someone you know, is attempting a Big Year or should be added to the list! Happy Big Year birding!
